HELP!! How do I do this?

Welcome!!!

This blogspot is being prepared as an alternate to any other computer site, and it is intended primarily for my own use. However, it is open and available to anyone who wishes to look at it.

Check the index on the right for the subject you need help with. Of course, this applies to my own computer.

It is also being used as My Guest Book. I'd still like to know if you dropped in to visit. Just your name and city is sufficient, unless you wish to write more. Thanks. Just click on the Comments button using your Google account, or anonymously.

HELP #1 - Genealogy

1-1. Legacy 7.4 (C: Glenn C. Johnson Genealogy)

Open from desktop. For statistics, go to Legacy Home. GEDCOM was installed 10/7/2010 from Family Tree Maker with 7587 entries.

Legacy 7.4 is a collection of ALL family trees, jointly compiled in order to be able to ascertain family relationships, if any, from members of my Tree and those from another Tree.

Family trees installed include:

Glenn Carroll Johnson - Descendants and Ancestors of Isaac Adolph Johnson and Ida Christene Jensen

Lorraine Hanson/Judi Person - Descendants of Per Bengtsson and Anna

Loren Hugh Amundson - Descendants of Amund Peter Amundson and Eveline Hamre, Descendants of Joseph Louvteau and Adelaide St. Mitchel

Grant Leroy Elvik - Descendants of Johannes Knutson Elvik and Anna Radina Eidsness; Descendants of Knut Jonsen and Marita, Descendants of Ivar Johannesson Simenes

Connie Berven -Descendants of Lars Berven and Anna,

Descendants of Johannes Wangberg and Austrid Myrseth

Larkin Benjamin Person - Descendants of Hemming Paulsen (b. 1646 Meraker, Norway)

Open Google Chrome; select Other Bookmarks, GC1-1Jan2011, select Genealogy. select Geni-Home. Joined on 1/4/2011 by invitation from Ingemar Isaksson.

This website is very interesting and contains links to over 50,000,000 people, living and dead. Its intent is to link together everyone in the world. No cost to belong. I initially thought I would limit my entries to my immediate family, but now am thinking that I may contribute as many names as I possibly can. (1/16/2011)

1-3. Family Tree Maker (FTM) - Open My Documents; select Box -Genealogy; open Johnson-Jensen. There are no photos (7587 entries as of 9/5/2010). Other files are All the People (7587 entries, no photos), Glenn27Jun2009 (7587 entries, no photos), but since these are duplicate files, they may as well be deleted at some future date. Another file is Johnson-Jensen1 (38 entries) which is a GEDCOM for Ancestry.

1-3. Personal Ancestry File (PAF) - Open My Documents; select Box - Genealogy; select PAF-Johnson 5.2 Copy 1 (7623 entries as of 9/5/2010, photos for first five generations only). Was unable to include in Google Chrome Bookmarks. Forget about further tries. Do not intend to add photos, because they are already sorted and saved in MyPictures (PAF Photos) and can be looked at there.

HELP #2 - Properties

2-1. Properties. My computer is using the following properties:

• Windows XP
• Mozilla Firefox (default); also Internet Explorer and Google Chrome
• Email - Windows Live (to include Hotmail, Yahoo, G-mail) - open with Firefox, open Bookmarks FF1, select Windows Live
• Outlook Express - open from desktop; would like to close but it seems I am unable to do so; continue checking for mail as some good mail still is delivered there
• Microsoft Office Outlook - open from desktop (default); contains imported mail from Outlook Express

2-2 Screen background - To change, open Control Panel, select Appearance and Themes, select Change the Background Desktop, Browse to select picture, then Apply.

HELP #3 - My Documents

HELP #4 - Lyons High School

4-1. Blogspot - Open browser, select Favorites, folder FF1; open MyBlogspots/Web, select lyonshighschool; sign in if necessary, select posting I wish to update, as Changes to Roster, Class Pictures, or create a New Post if desired.

4-2. My Documents

• Class Roster (Word) - Enter required change (such as address, death, etc). Save (last modified 9/13/2010). This is the document to update whenever necessary, copy and paste to roster in Text Document.
• Class Roster (Text Document) - If a large change was made to the Word document above, copy and paste to this Text Document. For a minor change, as one or two addresses, enter change in both Word and Text Document (last modified 9/15/2010).
• Mailing List 2009 - Update address changes, deaths, etc.
• Mailing List 2009 w/email - Update with email, if available.
• Index of Students - (Xcel) - Update as necessary for deaths, address needed, etc. (last modified 9/13/2010)
